Get Up and Go!
This story is for grade 1 student, part of an anthology of trade book selections. This story was written from scratch to hit certain standards and lesson skills.
The story went through several iterations before arriving to this final design. The first concept was more photographic, one big focal image with tip boxes throughout. It looked too much like an educational pamphlet. As we want the selection to belong among series of trade book stories, I took it to more illustrative direction, to put focus on the action and movements of these kids, with a side-kick character offering tips. I illustrated the background chalk drawing, and I manipulated a series of stock side-kick character art.
