Leveled Reader Cards
Leveled Reader Cards are two-sided, either single or gate folded cards, that delivers cross-curricular lessons to students. I was given a manuscript and a blank canvas. I owned the entire creative process, from concept, photo research, to final.
The Physical Properties of Matter is for grade 5 students. The main text and some of the photos are repurposed from an old science program. I wanted to avoid making this lesson look clinical. I came up with an idea to use chalkboard and paper cut shapes to resemble kid science projects. The challenge here was to make a lot of text and supporting images organized and fit in scannable manner. To keep within budget, most of the photos were selected from the library of company-owned photos so that funds could be reserved to purchase the stock photo of the kids doing an experiment. In addition to depicting proper safety gear and adult supervision, this photo provides a positive portrayal of girls in science.
